Tips to maximize your experience on the KM Impact Challenge website.

  1. Use only the http://kdid.org/kmic url, please make sure that the www. is not included in the url address in your browser. 
  2. We recommend viewing the KM Impact Challenge in a Mozilla Firefox browser until the site is fully optimized for Internet Explorer. Download Mozilla Firefox in your preferred language.
  3. Click the 'Join this Challenge' button on the right column to create a new account and select the Join KM Impact Challenge option under Groups, before clicking on the Create new account button.
  4. You can always navigate back to the KM Impact Challenge homepage by clicking on 'KM Impact Challenge' under the 'KDID Lab' main menu option.

FAQs

How do I submit a case story?

  1. Log in or Create new account on the KM Impact Challenge website.
  2. Before you submit an entry make sure you have read the Guidelines and Criteria and the Writing Tips for case stories.
  3. Click on the 'Submit Story' button in the upper right column of the page.
  4. Fill out the online Case Story Entry Form and enter all required fields. Click on the "Submit" button when you are finished. (Please note that you can edit your entry as many times as you want before the Challenge deadline on January 30, 2011.)
  5. Click here to submit a case story now or download the case story form to work offline first.

What is the purpose of the KM Impact Challenge?
The Knowledge Management Impact Challenge (KMIC) is a collaborative learning process that will promote knowledge exchange across organizations and generate answers to the challenges that many face with regards to how to effectively measure the impact of KM in order to know where to focus efforts and invest resources. Please see the KMIC overview section for more details.

What are the different ways that I can participate in the KM Impact Challenge?
Here are a few ways you can participate:

  • Share a Resource— share your favorite articles or web links to valuable resources on the topic
  • Submit a Story— during the Online Challenge describing your experience
  • Host a parallel event in your city or organization, or online
  • Promote the KMIC on your web site and through your networks

Who is eligible to submit a case story?
The challenge is open to all individuals and all types of organizations (charitable organizations, private companies, or public entities) from all countries. We consider all entries that:

  • Reflect the theme of the challenge and in some way describe efforts to measure or assess knowledge and learning related activities
  • Are submitted in English by January 30, 2011 via the online entry form

Can case stories be submitted in other languages?
During this initial phase of the KM Impact Challenge we are not properly equipped to process and display case stories in multiple languages. The web site being developed in English, and we hope additional language functionality will be developed soon. We hope that this initial round of case story gathering will spark an interest to support the process in other regions and with other languages.

Why should I submit a case story?

  • Raise the visibility of your work and contribute to advancing good practice standards around what works. All case stories submitted will be featured online as part of a growing shared-knowledge base on the topic.
  • Five case story authors will receive an expense paid travel award to share their story and learn from others at the KM Impact Challenge unConference in Washington, DC (proposed for May, 2011).

When is the deadline for submissions?
The deadline for submitting case story entries is January 30, 2011. Updated information about days remaining before the Challenge deadline is displayed on the KM Impact Challenge web site.

Early Entry Award: Submit a story by January 9, 2011, to be eligible for a USD $1,000 professional development award.

Can I submit more than one case story?
Yes. Individuals and organizations are welcome to share up to three (3) case story entries.

Can I edit my case story once it has been submitted?
Yes. You can edit your entry as many times are you like before the deadline for submissions on January 30, 2011. To edit your case story follow these steps: 

  1. Log in to the KM Impact Challenge if you haven't done so and click on your username at the very top of the page, and select the 'Public Profile' option from the drop down 
  2. Under My Participation click on 'My Activity' tab and click on the title of your case story that will appear listed 
  3. Click on the 'Edit' button that appears above the title of your case story 
  4. Edit your responses 
  5. When finished updating your case story click the 'Submit' button at the end of the form.

Why can't I submit my Case Story form?
Make sure all required fields are completed and verify you are not exceeding the maximum character limit for each question. The system works with a character limit so we have provided the estimated number of characters that corresponds to the word limit for each question. If you continue to have difficulties, please email us.

How will the case stories be reviewed?
A Technical Advisory Group consisting of more than 30 volunteer subject matter specialists will review all eligible case story entries using the criteria of clarity, analytical, creativity, and replicability. There is not an emphasis on identifying "winners," but rather to simply help identify stories that merit deeper attention by the practitioner community. Please visit the Guidelines and Criteria section to learn more about the peer-review process and evaluation criteria.

What important dates should I keep in mind?
Submission Period: December 1, 2010 to January 30, 2011
Early Entry Award Deadline: January 9, 2011
Peer-review Period:  February 1, 2011 to February 14, 2011
Top case stories announced: February 14, 2011
UnConference: May, 2011 (specific date to be determined)

How do I submit a resource to the Library? 

  1. Log in or Create new account on the KM Impact Challenge website.
  2. Click on the 'Share Resource' button in the upper right column of the page.
  3. Fill out the Library Resource Form providing at least the title, author, description, and an external link for the resource. After you enter all these fields, click on the "Save" button when you are finished.
  4. Click here to share a resource now.

 

Who is sponsoring the KM Impact Challenge?
The Knowledge Management Impact Challenge is an initiative of the Knowledge-Driven Microenterprise Development (KDMD) project under the USAID Microenterprise Development (MD) office. The Challenge is being conducted in collaboration with KM4Dev and the Impact Alliance. Additional sponsors are encouraged to join to expand the Challenge beyond the initial set of activities.

What is KDID? The Knowledge-Driven International Development (KDID) Portal is a family of websites established to maximize the effectiveness of development assistance by connecting development practitioners through learning opportunities and spreading innovation and good practice. They are designed to ensure that knowledge on what works in development is effectively captured and shared among practitioners so it can be applied to projects, programs, and USAID Mission efforts. The KDID platform is supporting the KM Impact Challenge website.

Create an account?

  1. Click the 'Join this Challenge' orange button on the right column or the "Register" link featured at the top of every page on the KM Impact Challenge.
  2. Complete all required fields marked with a red asterisk, including: username, email address, and password.
  3. Check the box for Join KM Impact Challenge under Groups field.
  4. Click "Create new account" button.
    Note: You will receive an activation email from KDID_HUb. You must click the activation link in the email to participate in the KM Impact Challenge.

Log in?

  1. Click the "Log in" button featured at the top of every page on the KM Impact Challenge.
  2. Enter your username and password on the User account page.
  3. Click the "Log in" button.

Request a new password if I forgot my existing password?

  1. Click the "Log in" button featured at the top of every page on the KM Impact Challenge.
  2. On the User account page, click the "Request new password" tab.
  3. Enter your email address.
  4. Click the "E-mail new password" button.

Change my password?
If you are not logged in, start with Step #1. If you are logged in, start with step #4.

  1. Click the "Log in" button featured at the top of every page on the KM Impact Challenge.
  2. Enter your username and password on the User account page.
  3. Click "Log in."
  4. Click "My account" at the top of the page.
  5. Click the "Edit" tab.
  6. Enter a new password.
  7. Confirm new password.
  8. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

Manage bookmarks?
