The purpose of the event was to take stock of efforts and outcomes in promoting democracy and democratic governance in Europe and Eurasia since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the communist bloc. The event discussed past and current trajectories of democratization, analyzed programmatic approaches to encouraging improvements on democracy and governance, and focused on remaining challenges for the region going forward in building democratic systems.
